Carrickmore Eire Og are this evening celebrating their 23nd senior hurling crown to draw level with Eoghan Ruadh. They were full value for their 1-18 to 0-9 point win over three in a row chasing Dungannon team. The Eoghan Ruadh side never really got into their stride at any point throughout the sixty minutes. Star forward Damian Casey never really got into the game and looked very ordinary throughout. Dermot Begley who was given the man marking job on Casey had a superb hour breaking up many Dungannon attacks before they really got going.
Carrickmore led 0-8 to 0-6 at the break. During the opening thirty minutes Gary Fox was a constant thorn in the Eoghan Ruadh side getting on to an ocean of ball and orchestrating the Eire Og attack. Their first half scores came from Aidan Kelly, Conor Grogan, and Gary Fox. The deployment of Justin Kelly in the half back line also gave the Eire Og side a great foundation to build on. Matthew Mulgrew was Eoghan Ruadh’s most dangerous player firing over three first half points.
Carrickmore moved into cruise control in the second period as Aidan Kelly fired over another six points, while Sean Og Grogan with five and Conor Grogan with two also got in on the act. Aidan Kelly would go on to finish the game with 0-9. Late frees from Damian Casey and an excellent point from Tiernan Morgan failed to make inroads into the Eire Og lead and they put the icing on the cake a minute from time when second half substitute Paul Hughes directed the sliotar to the net for the only goal of the game.
